Hey You Guys - Print

The magic of the Goonies still captivates me thirty years after I saw it for the first time - seven kids pitting their wits against a long-dead pirate king! This painting aims to capture some of that magic and is filled with references to the classic movie. Although packed with gold and "rich stuff" now I'm older I find myself wondering if the ice cream and marbles aren't the real treasure... hah! Who am I kidding?

I recreated the "Copperbones" using images from a 1980s fanzine. The key was sculpted carefully, trying to capture every detail from the original. Finally I took a mould and cast the key in resin.

For One-eyed Willy I bought a medical model skull through ebay then set about making it accurate. I drilled out teeth before applying paint and making an eye patch.

The Swensens Tub was recreated with a little assistance from Swensens themselves while the lamp and candlestick are genuine vintage items. Many of the doubloons are castings I made, although I must admit; some of the coins in the background are actually chocolate!

This is available as a high quality Giclee print produced using archival pigments on an acid free paper, or as a poster print on 200gsm silk stock. Supplied flat and ready to frame (frame not included).

Print size: 420 x 297mm (A3 landscape)

All of my paintings have been created in my Northamptonshire studio in oils on a rigid support. A grisaille underpainting was painted first in a traditional style before colour was added.
